Scholarship Benefits For The American College Of Surgeons Scholarships

The scholarship prize of $5,000 gives the recipient a chance to go to a big medical conference called the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) annual meeting. They also get to visit one or two really important hospitals that specialize in treating serious injuries, called Level I Trauma Centers. Alternatively, they can go to the headquarters of a program called Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) at the American College of Surgeons in Chicago, IL. This visit will teach them about the standards for a trauma program/database and why it’s important to have different medical specialists working together to provide care for people with severe injuries.

The person who wins this scholarship will get a free ticket to attend the AAST annual meeting and can also choose to take one of the extra classes that are offered at the meeting. The scholarship organizers will help them find affordable hotels to stay in during the conference and when they visit the Trauma Centers or TQIP headquarters. However, the cost of the hotel and travel expenses will be the responsibility of the scholarship recipient. They will have to use the money from the scholarship to cover those costs.

• You should have completed your surgical training and currently be practicing as an attending surgeon after graduating from a medical school.
• You must be a member in good standing of the American College of Surgeons (Associate Fellow or Fellow) and one of the societies listed at aast.org/international scholar-scholarship.
• Your age should be between 30 and 50 years when you submit the complete application.
• Your application will be considered only if you have been involved in surgical practice, teaching, or research for at least one year at your intended permanent location, after finishing all your formal training, including fellowships and scholarships.
• You need to demonstrate your dedication to providing high-quality acute care surgery, teaching surgical skills, and improving access to surgical care in your community.
• To apply, you must fill out the application form available on the ACS website, facs.org. Make sure to complete all the required sections using a computer and submit it in English. Submitting only a curriculum vitae will not be accepted.
• Preference will be given to applicants who have not undergone training or surgical fellowships in the United States or Canada.
• If your application is not successful, you can reapply twice by completing a new application form provided by the College and including updated supporting documentation.
• You must arrange for three letters of recommendation from colleagues who can speak to your skills and expertise in acute care surgery. One letter should be from the chair of the department where you work or from a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in your country. This letter should directly address your commitment to high-quality acute care surgery, teaching, and improving access to surgical care locally. The other two letters should come from colleagues who can evaluate your abilities and practice in acute care surgery, clinical work, and teaching. The letters of recommendation should be submitted by the individuals who are recommending you.
• The scholarship must be used in the designated year and cannot be postponed. After your return home, you will be expected to provide a written report that highlights the value of your visit and the potential positive impact on acute care surgical patients in your home country.

ACS/ASBrS International Scholarship

Benefit Of The American College Of Surgeons Scholarships

The purpose of this scholarship is to support breast cancer surgeons who are working outside of the United States and Canada. The goal is to enhance the quality of breast cancer surgical services in their respective countries. Priority will be given to applicants from developing nations.

The scholarship, valued at $5,000, offers the opportunity for the recipient to attend the annual meeting of the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS) from April 26 to 30, 2023, in Boston, Massachusetts. Additionally, the awardee will be invited to visit the headquarters of the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) in Chicago, IL. During this visit, they will gain insights into the standards for a breast cancer program/database and the significance of a multidisciplinary approach to breast cancer care.

As part of the scholarship, the recipient will receive complimentary registration for the ASBrS annual meeting and one available postgraduate course at the event (subject to certain restrictions). Assistance will be provided to secure affordable accommodation at a recommended hotel in the city where the ASBrS meeting is held. However, the awardee will be responsible for covering their own expenses related to travel and accommodation, which will be funded using the scholarship award.

Scholarship Benefits For The American College Of Surgeons Scholarships

The International Relations Committee of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) is excited to announce travel awards specifically designed for surgeons between the ages of 30 and 50. These awards, valued at $4,000 each, aim to support international surgeons in attending and actively participating in the educational activities of the ACS annual Clinical Congress. The primary focus is to assist surgeons working in community or regional hospitals or clinics outside of the United States and Canada, as well as those from under-resourced academic surgery departments in countries facing resource challenges.

THEY are also delighted to introduce the newly established Community Surgeon Travel Award, generously donated by the Doctors Duremdes family, with a special emphasis on Filipino surgeons. This award gives preference to deserving applicants from Iloilo Province, Panay Island, and non-urban Philippine communities.

Each recipient of the award will receive complimentary registration for the annual Clinical Congress, including access to one available postgraduate course held during the event. Also, they will provide assistance in securing cost-effective accommodations at a preferred hotel in the host city where the Clinical Congress takes place.
