Requirements For The Postgraduate International Excellence Scholarships

  1. To be eligible for this scholarship:
  • Applicants must be non-UK nationals and pay international tuition fees.
  • They should have applied for and received an offer to study at Swansea University at the undergraduate or master’s level.
  • Certain programs, such as PhD, MPhil, and Erasmus Mundus, are not eligible for this scholarship. However, programs like BSc, BA, LLB, MA, etc., are eligible.
  • Students progressing from ‘The College Swansea University’ are not eligible, but those progressing from undergraduate to postgraduate studies are eligible.
  • Alumni of Swansea University can also apply, but there may be additional terms and conditions for alumni scholarships.
  • Applicants should have demonstrated academic excellence so far and show potential for future achievements at Swansea University.
  • They must be self-funded and not receiving financial support from their home country, sponsor body, or any external organization. If funding is confirmed after receiving the scholarship, the university may withdraw it.
  1. The scholarship can only be used to offset tuition fees and cannot be used for any other purpose.
  2. The scholarship will be applied to the course fees for the specific academic year mentioned in the offer letter. If a course offer is deferred, applicants must reapply for the scholarship, unless exceptional circumstances are approved by the university.   4. International Excellence Scholarships are only available for the first year of one-year postgraduate degree programs. Two-year masters with industry programs are not eligible for any scholarship during the industry year.
  5. The International Scholarship Committee may use various assessment methods to determine deserving candidates for the scholarship. If any terms, conditions, or eligibility criteria do not apply or are unclear, or if the applicant’s situation changes, the committee will make a decision.
  6. Applicants can receive an International Excellence Scholarship along with another scholarship or bursary from another department at the university, as long as they meet the eligibility criteria for both. It is the responsibility of the students to check the criteria for each scholarship or bursary they apply for. The university will withdraw any additional scholarship awarded in error or due to a change in circumstances.
  7. The total combined scholarship amounts cannot exceed £6000. If a candidate is offered £5000 from another university award, the maximum amount the IDO (International Development Office) can award is £1000, reaching the maximum allowed amount of £6000. This also applies to staff awards with a 50% tuition fee discount.
  8. Scholarship holders are expected to participate in Swansea University recruitment activities and agree to their names and details being used for marketing purposes by the International Development Office.
  9. If a scholarship holder needs to suspend their studies, the scholarship will be put on hold and carried forward to the year when studies are resumed. The candidate will be expected to pay their personal contribution on a pro-rata basis.
  10. If a scholarship holder’s progress is considered unsatisfactory by the Head of School, the scholarship may be withdrawn. The scholarship may also be withdrawn if the candidate fails to comply with the conditions of the award. In such cases, the candidate may be required to repay the awarded amount, either partially or in full, as determined by the Committee. The scholar can appeal this decision to the Head of the International Development Office within 15 working days.
  11. If a scholarship holder withdraws from the university after accepting the award, they will be required to repay the awarded amount, either partially or in full, as determined by the Committee.
  12. The International Development Office has the right to make changes, amendments, withdrawals, suspensions, or cancellations to these regulations without prior notice, and their decisions will be final.
  13. Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the awarding committee. The amount awarded may be higher or lower than the amount initially applied for.
